Is the Web3 dream actually dead after the recent market shifts, or is it just entering a new phase?
We’ve seen the hype around NFTs and "to-the-moon" coins die down significantly. Many are calling Web3 a failed experiment. However, developers are still building on Ethereum and Solana at record speeds. In 2024, are we finally moving past the speculative bubble and into a "Utility Era" where blockchain actually solves real-world problems like data ownership and decentralized identity?

Web3 isn't dead; it's finally getting quiet enough for the real engineers to work. In 2025, the focus has shifted entirely to "DePIN" (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks) and RWA (Real World Assets) tokenization. We are seeing companies put real estate and treasury bonds on-chain to increase liquidity. The "crypto-winter" of the previous years successfully purged the scammers, leaving behind a foundation of scalable Layer 2 networks that can actually handle millions of users without costing a fortune in gas fees.

Kimberly, since you mentioned Layer 2 networks, do you think the fragmentation between different chains is going to confuse the average user too much for mainstream adoption to ever happen?

Brian, fragmentation is a hurdle, but "Chain Abstraction" is the big trend for late 2024. The goal is for the user to not even know they are using a blockchain. Just like you don't care if a website uses AWS or Azure, Web3 users won't care which L2 they are on. Developers are building "intent-centric" designs where the complex bridging happens in the background, making the UI feel like a standard banking app.

The death of Web3 has been predicted every year since 2015. Every time the "bubble" pops, the technology underneath gets 10x faster and more secure. We are just in a build cycle.

I totally agree, Susan. The infrastructure being built today is what will support the next billion users. The lack of hype is actually a sign that the industry is finally maturing.
