Request a Call Back

Can AI really handle my household "life admin" like booking repairs or handling returns?

I’ve heard about "Agentic AI" being able to navigate the web. Has anyone actually used an AI to do things like call a plumber, navigate a phone tree, or argue with a customer service bot to get a refund? It feels like the ultimate goal of automation, but is the tech actually there yet?

All answers to this question.

The tech is definitely in the "early adopter" phase, but it’s becoming incredibly capable. Multimodal models that can "see" a browser window are now able to navigate complex websites to fill out forms or schedule appointments. I recently used a specialized voice agent to handle a warranty claim. I provided the order number and the issue, and the agent stayed on hold for 20 minutes and negotiated the shipping label for the return. It’s not a 100% "set and forget" yet—you sometimes need to provide a missing detail—but it’s a massive leap forward from manually dealing with frustrating corporate support lines.

Does the AI handle the legal aspect of "voice consent" well when it’s speaking on your behalf to a human, or do you find that companies reject the call when they realize it’s an agent?

  • Kyle, most sophisticated agents now start the call with a clear disclosure. Interestingly, many call centers are so used to automated systems now that they don't mind as long as the information is accurate. The real hurdle is when the human on the other end asks a question outside the agent's specific instructions, which is where the reasoning capabilities of the underlying model are tested.

I use a simple text-based agent for my dry cleaning and hair appointments. It just fires off the emails or texts and adds the confirmation to my Google Calendar.

  • I love that, Monica. Sometimes the simplest automations are the most effective. It’s all about removing those tiny friction points that add up over a busy work week.
