Which cloud certification is most valuable for a DevOps career path in 2024?

If you look at the sheer market share, AWS is still the dominant force. The AWS DevOps Professional is a very difficult exam but is highly respected by recruiters. However, if you are interested in Kubernetes and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, the Google certification is fantastic because it’s built around the SRE book. I’d suggest checking the job descriptions in your local area; if you see a lot of "Big Data" firms, GCP might be the better bet.

Before jumping into the Professional level, have you considered getting a foundational cert like the AWS Solutions Architect Associate to understand the underlying infrastructure first?

• Thomas, that’s exactly what I did. I found that jumping straight to DevOps without the Architect Associate left me with huge gaps in networking knowledge. Definitely start with the Associate!

Don't ignore the CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator). Regardless of which cloud you choose, Kubernetes is the industry standard now for any DevOps role.

• Nancy is right. Most DevOps interviews I've had lately focused more on my K8s and Terraform skills than the specific cloud provider certs.
