Is social commerce on TikTok and Instagram replacing traditional affiliate blogs for product discovery?
I'm seeing a massive trend where people go to TikTok for "Amazon Finds" or "Tech Unboxing" instead of searching Google. For someone just starting in 2024, should I even bother building a WordPress site, or should I go all-in on social media affiliate programs? Does a website still hold value for long-term SEO and recurring commission stability?

Don't fall for the "social only" trap. While TikTok is amazing for viral discovery, you don't own that platform. If the algorithm changes or your account gets flagged, your income disappears overnight. A blog is "owned media" where you control the SEO and the email list. The smartest strategy is a hybrid: use TikTok/Reels for the "top of funnel" discovery and drive them to your blog for the "deep dive" reviews where the actual conversion happens. This way, you benefit from the viral traffic of social media while building a long-term asset that continues to earn via organic search.

Do you think the recent "TikTok Shop" integration is making it harder to drive traffic off-platform, or are you seeing better conversions by keeping users inside the app?

TikTok Shop is definitely a walled garden, Michael. It’s great for impulse buys under $30, but for anything significant, people still want to read a long-form review. I’ve found that my "Link in Bio" still gets a healthy amount of clicks from people who want to see a comparison table before they drop $200 on a piece of home office equipment.

Blogs are still king for "best of" lists. People don't search TikTok for "best laptop for video editing

Exactly, Christopher. Intent-based search is still dominated by Google. Social is for "interruption" marketing; search is for "solution" marketing.
