How to secure legacy cloud systems against modern AI-enhanced security attacks?
Our organization is struggling with retrofitting security into our older cloud infrastructure. I’m interested in hearing from veterans: What biggest career challenge in journey? was your when it comes to defending against sophisticated, AI-driven phishing and social engineering? Is it better to upgrade the tech or focus entirely on employee training to mitigate these risks?

All answers to this question.
I’ve spent fifteen years in the SOC trenches, and the rise of deepfake voice cloning is genuinely terrifying. My biggest challenge in my career journey was convincing my board that security is a continuous process, not a one-time purchase. We moved to a Zero Trust architecture, which significantly reduced our attack surface. While tech is vital, human error remains the weakest link. We implement monthly, randomized phishing simulations that are personalized. If an employee 'fails,' they get immediate, non-punitive training. You need both a high-tech shield and a high-awareness culture to survive today.

Does the Zero Trust model create too much friction for the average employee trying to access their daily tools?

Friction is the price of safety, Brian. However, using Modern Auth like FIDO2 keys makes it nearly seamless. The minor inconvenience of a biometric check is nothing compared to the catastrophe of a full-scale ransomware breach. We’ve found that once employees understand the 'why,' the adoption rate is very high.

Implementing least-privilege access across all cloud environments is the most effective way to contain a breach if an identity is eventually compromised by an attacker.

Agreed. Least-privilege is foundational. In my own cybersecurity career journey, this single policy change was what prevented a minor credential leak from becoming a disaster.
