What is the best roadmap to become a certified Citizen Developer in 2024?

The roadmap depends on whether you want to be a generalist or a specialist. The PMI Citizen Developer body of knowledge is fantastic for learning the "Architecture" and "Governance" of how to manage a project without being a coder—it teaches you how to vet an idea before you build it. However, if you want to be hands-on, I highly recommend starting with the Microsoft PL-900 (Power Platform Fundamentals). It’s widely recognized and covers everything from basic apps to automated workflows. Employers today value people who can bridge the gap between business needs and technical execution, so a combination of a methodology cert and a tool cert is your best bet.

• Kevin, my "Big Win" is going to be automating the new hire equipment request process. Currently, it involves three different spreadsheets and a lot of manual emails. If I can build a simple Power App that triggers a Power Automate flow, I can save the HR team about 10 hours a week. I figure that if I can present a "Case Study" of my own work alongside a certification, it will make a much stronger argument for a promotion or a transition into a dedicated Digital Transformation role.

Don't ignore the community. Sites like Stack Overflow and the Power Users forums are just as valuable as any certificate when you get stuck on a specific logic problem.
