• Robert, I don't have a specific niche yet, but I am leaning towards Fintech. I've noticed a lot of job postings there still mention R for risk modeling, but they also want Python for the real-time fraud detection systems. It's a bit confusing! I think I might start with Python because it seems to have a wider range of tutorials for beginners, especially when it comes to the newer AI tools.

If you choose Python, make sure to learn SQL as well. No Data Scientist can survive in 2026 without being able to pull their own data from a warehouse.

• David is right. Python + SQL is the "Golden Duo" of 2026. Master those two and you'll be ahead of 80% of other applicants.
