How difficult is the PL-300 Power BI Data Analyst exam compared to Tableau certifications?

Transitioning from Tableau, you'll find the visualization layer intuitive, but DAX is a different animal. It’s more comparable to advanced Excel formulas on steroids than Tableau’s logic. The PL-300 exam is very heavy on data modeling—if you don't understand Star Schemas and many-to-many relationships, you will struggle. About 40% of the exam covers data transformation in Power Query (M language). Don't just focus on making pretty charts; focus on how to clean and shape the data before it ever hits the report canvas.

• Those practice tests are a lifesaver. Pay close attention to "Time Intelligence" functions in DAX. That's a huge part of the PL-300 and it's where most Tableau users get tripped up. Once you master the Filter Context, everything else starts to make sense in the Power BI ecosystem.

Focus on Power Query. If your data is clean and your model is solid, the DAX actually becomes much simpler to write and maintain.

• Totally agree. A good data model is the foundation of any successful Power BI project. It makes the PL-300 much easier to pass too.
