• Thomas, my Master's gave me a solid foundation in stats, but the Generative AI field moves so fast that academic programs can't keep up. I've found that specialized certifications and keeping up with the latest research papers are much more effective for staying relevant than a degree. Practical application of LLMs is something I had to learn entirely on the job and through independent study.

Experience beats a degree every time in the current market. I've seen PhDs struggle with basic data cleaning, while self-taught experts build incredible production-ready systems.

• I agree with Laura. Most hiring managers I know would take a candidate with 3 years of solid industry experience over a fresh PhD graduate with zero commercial exposure.
