What is the impact of Google AI Overviews on organic CTR and SEM traffic?
With the rollout of Search Generative Experience and AI Overviews, I'm seeing fewer clicks coming through to our informational blog posts. It seems Google is answering the query directly on the SERP. How should we adjust our SEM and SEO strategy to ensure we still get traffic? Should we focus more on "commercial intent" keywords that AI can't fully satisfy?

All answers to this question.
We’ve shifted our focus toward "Information Gain." Instead of writing generic "What is..." articles that AI can summarize easily, we now produce original research, case studies, and first-person expert opinions. This makes our content a "source" that the AI Overview actually cites with a link. On the paid side, we’ve increased our budget for "Bottom of Funnel" keywords where users are looking for pricing or comparisons, as these are less likely to be fully replaced by a generic AI summary.

Are you using Schema Markup to help the AI understand your data points more clearly, increasing the chances of your site being the primary "cited source" in those summaries?

James, we just implemented Product and FAQ schema across our main service pages. Since then, we've noticed our brand appearing more frequently in the "Links" section of the AI Overviews, which has actually helped recover some of the lost organic traffic.

Focus on building a strong brand. When users specifically search for your brand name rather than a general category, they bypass the AI's generic noise and go straight to you.

Spot on, Patricia. Branded search is the only real "moat" we have left in this increasingly automated search environment.
