Can Generative AI (ChatGPT, Gemini) assist in PMP-based Risk Management planning?

I am working on a massive infrastructure project and wondering if Generative AI (ChatGPT, Gemini) can help identify "Black Swan" risks that aren't obvious in traditional brainstorming. Can we feed it historical project data to predict potential delays or resource shortages? I want to move toward a more proactive Risk Register using agentic AI capabilities.

All answers to this question.

Integrating Generative AI (ChatGPT, Gemini) into PMP workflows is the next step for Project Management. I’ve started using Gemini to run "pre-mortem" sessions. I give the AI all the project constraints and ask it to play the role of a "pessimistic auditor" to find everything that could go wrong. It’s surprisingly good at linking dependencies across different departments that humans might overlook. While it won't predict a global pandemic, it's excellent at flagging things like "regulatory changes in Q3" or "likely labor strikes based on current news." It makes our Risk Register much more robust.

How do you quantify the "probability and impact" scores that Generative AI (ChatGPT, Gemini) suggests for these risks?

  • That’s where the Project Manager's expertise is vital, Peter. The AI might suggest a score based on its training data, but you have to calibrate it against your specific project's reality. I use the AI's suggestions as a "base rate" and then adjust them during our weekly risk review meetings. It provides a consistent logic that we can then refine with our internal team's on-the-ground experience.

Generative AI (ChatGPT, Gemini) has been incredibly helpful for drafting our project charter and communication plans in half the usual time.

  • Speeding up the initiation phase is a huge benefit, Karen. It allows us to get the actual work started much faster while maintaining high documentation standards.
