The role isn't disappearing; it's evolving into "Platform Engineering." Companies are moving away from having developers do everything. Instead, they need experts to build internal platforms on AWS that allow devs to self-serve. AI is actually helping us by automating the "boring" parts like writing boilerplate CloudFormation templates, but a human is still required to design the security architecture and handle complex troubleshooting. The ROI for AWS skills remains high because cloud complexity is growing faster than AI can currently manage it.

• Dennis, absolutely. The future is about abstraction. If you can build a system where a developer can deploy a secure, compliant environment on AWS with one command, you are invaluable. This requires deep knowledge of EKS, Helm, and even some backend development skills to tie it all together through a custom portal or CLI tool.

As long as businesses use the cloud, they will need someone to keep the lights on and optimize costs. AI can't negotiate an AWS Enterprise Discount Program yet!
