Is it still possible to succeed in the "Travel Niche" affiliate marketing in 2024 with so much competition?

Travel is one of the most saturated niches out there. Every "digital nomad" has a blog about Bali or Lisbon. Is there a specific sub-niche or a "blue ocean" strategy left for travel affiliates, or is it better to focus on a more boring but less competitive niche like "Industrial Equipment" or "Office Ergonomics"?

All answers to this question.

The "general travel" niche is dead, but "problem-solving travel" is booming. Don't write about "10 things to do in Paris." Instead, write about "How to travel with a reactive dog in Europe" or "Best portable workstations for van-lifers in 2024." These are specific problems that require specific products, which makes the affiliate link a helpful resource rather than a pushy ad. High-ticket items like travel insurance or luxury luggage sets convert better when you target these specific intents. Find a micro-niche that you actually live in, and you’ll find that the competition drops off significantly.

Would you be willing to pivot into "Experiential Travel" where the focus is on booking specific workshops or retreats rather than just hotels and flights?

  • That’s a great angle, Robert. Retreats and specialty workshops (like photography tours) often pay 10% to 15% commissions compared to the 2% you get from Expedia. Plus, the price point is much higher. I’ve been looking into "Sustainable Farm-Stays," and there is almost no competition on the first page of Google for those specific keywords right now.

Local SEO is another huge opportunity. Being the "Affiliate Expert" for a specific city can be much more profitable than being a mediocre global travel blogger.

  • Spot on, Barbara. If you can rank for "best luxury transport in [City]," you’ll get high-intent traffic that is ready to book high-ticket services immediately.
