How do we disclose the use of AI in our content without losing the trust of our audience?

Our agency is starting to use <generative ai> to help draft blog posts and social media updates. We want to be ethical, but we’re afraid a disclaimer will make people think our content is low-quality. What is the best way to maintain transparency while still showing our human expertise?

All answers to this question.

The key is to frame it as "Human-Led, AI-Assisted." Instead of a sterile disclaimer, explain your process. Tell your readers that while an AI helped organize the research, every single word was reviewed and fact-checked by a subject matter expert. In 2024, audiences are becoming more sophisticated; they don't hate AI, they hate lazy, unedited AI content. If you provide genuine value, they won't mind that you used a tool to help you get there. Transparency actually builds a deeper bond.

Do you think there’s a specific threshold of AI usage—say, more than 50% of the text—where a disclaimer becomes legally or morally mandatory?

  • That’s a tough line to draw, Wayne. Many companies are moving toward a "Watermark" approach. In our guidelines, we say if the AI provided the "Core Insight," you must disclose it. If it just helped fix the grammar of your own original thoughts, it’s no different than using a spellchecker. The goal is to avoid taking credit for a "perspective" that isn't yours. As the tech becomes ubiquitous, the "assisted by" tag will likely become a common standard.

Authenticity is your best defense. If you include personal stories and unique data that an AI couldn't possibly know, the "AI" label won't bother anyone.

  • Exactly. AI can't replicate lived experience. Adding that human layer is what keeps your content from feeling like a generic commodity in a crowded market
