Is the IIBA ECBA certification enough to get an entry-level BA job without experience?
I am a recent graduate looking to break into the Business Analysis field. I don't have direct experience yet, so I'm considering the ECBA (Entry Certificate in Business Analysis). Will this be enough to get past the initial screening, or should I also look into learning specific tools like Jira?

All answers to this question.
The ECBA is a fantastic way to show employers that you understand the BABOK (Business Analysis Body of Knowledge) framework, which is the global standard. However, in today’s market, a certificate alone is rarely enough. You should pair it with practical knowledge of tools like Jira and Confluence, as most companies use these for tracking requirements. I also recommend building a small portfolio. Even if you haven't worked as a BA, you can take a popular app and write a set of User Stories, a Process Map, and a SWOT analysis for it to show you can apply the theory.

Are there any specific industries where the ECBA is more respected, like Finance or Healthcare?

William, it’s highly respected in any industry that follows structured project management, especially Banking and Insurance. These sectors value the rigorous documentation and methodology that the IIBA promotes. In those industries, having the ECBA on your resume can definitely help you bypass the automated filters that look for foundational knowledge of the business analysis life cycle.

It’s a great start! I’d also suggest learning basic SQL. Being able to "talk data" will set you apart from other entry-level candidates.

Totally agree with Elizabeth. Combining the ECBA’s theoretical knowledge with a hard skill like SQL makes you much more "billable" to a hiring manager.
