What strategies are effective for defending against Deepfake-based identity deception?
I recently read that Deepfake attacks on executive video calls are among the most dangerous new Cybersecurity Trends. How can we train employees to spot these during live interactions? Is there any technical verification software you recommend for validating the identity of participants in a meeting?

Deepfakes are terrifying because they exploit the "seeing is believing" instinct. In terms of Cybersecurity Trends, we are moving toward "Identity-First" security. We’ve implemented a policy where any financial transaction or sensitive data access requested over video must be confirmed via a separate "trust code." This is a daily-changing phrase that only the employee and their manager know. Technically, we are also looking at watermark detection tools, but honestly, the best defense right now is a skeptical culture and a strong out-of-band verification process.

Could we use biometric challenges during the call, like asking the person to turn their head or show their ID to the camera to break the AI rendering?

That’s a great suggestion, Jeffrey. Many current deepfake models struggle with profile views or rapid movement. Asking someone to wave their hand in front of their face or turn sideways can often cause the "mask" to glitch. It’s a low-tech way to verify someone’s physical presence without needing expensive software, though attackers are getting better at fixing those glitches.
We just tell our team to always call the person back on their official work number if a request seems even slightly unusual. It’s simple but very effective.

Simplicity is key, Karen. If the phone call doesn't match the video request, you've just stopped a major breach before it started.
