Are Content Strategists being replaced by AI Copywriters?

I’m seeing a lot of "AI Copywriter" tools that can churn out 50 blogs a day. As a Content Strategist, I’m worried about my career longevity. Is the pay for content roles going to drop, or is there a way to pivot my skills to remain a high-earner? Should I focus on "AI Prompt Engineering" for marketing to stay relevant?

All answers to this question.

The "Content Strategist" isn't being replaced; they are being upgraded to "Content Product Managers." Basic copywriting is indeed becoming a commodity, but the strategy behind what to write and how to distribute it for maximum ROI is more valuable than ever. High-paying roles ($90k-$130k) are now for those who can manage an AI-assisted workflow to produce 10x the content with 10x the quality. Focus on "Brand Voice" and "Thought Leadership"—things AI can't do without human guidance. Learning prompt engineering is just one tool in that new kit.

Does this mean the focus should shift more toward "Video Content" and "Podcasting" where the human element is harder to fake with AI?

  • James, that is a brilliant pivot. Human-centric formats are booming. Brands are desperate for "Authenticity." If you can lead a Multi-Channel strategy that includes short-form video (TikTok/Reels) and host-led webinars, you are essentially "future-proofing" your career. The "Copy" is just the starting point; the "Experience" and "Community" you build around that content are what drive the high-level conversions that companies will always pay a premium for.

I’ve started using AI to do the boring research so I can spend 80% of my time on the high-level narrative. My output has doubled.

  • That's the way to do it, Nancy. Use the tool to clear the "grunt work" so you can focus on the "genius work" that actually moves the needle.
