What is the salary difference between a Cloud Engineer and an Architect?

• Thomas, it’s very rare to get an Architect role without at least 3-5 years of engineering experience. Most senior architects I know have "battle scars" from servers failing at 3 AM; that’s what gives them the intuition to design better systems. A certification might get you the interview, but your engineering background is what will close the deal. I would suggest aiming for a Senior Engineer role first, then pivoting to Architecture once you’ve led a few major cloud migration or hosting projects.

Both roles are in high demand, but the "Solutions Architect" title definitely has a higher salary ceiling in the US market right now, especially in FinTech.

• Sarah is correct. The ceiling for Architects is much higher because they are seen as strategic partners to the business side of the company, not just technical staff.
