Can I realistically land a Cloud Technology role without a CS degree if I start in my mid-30s?

The cloud sector is one of the most meritocratic areas of IT right now. While a degree helps for HR filtering at some legacy firms, most modern tech companies care more about your ability to build and secure infrastructure. If you can show a GitHub repo with Terraform scripts or a documented multi-tier architecture you built on AWS, you are ahead of many graduates. I started my cloud journey at 37 after working in education. It took me about a year of dedicated study to get my first Associate-level role, but the career growth since then has been incredible.

• Thomas, I am looking at AWS first. It is a common myth that it is too late to switch to IT in your 30s in the US without a degree, but you definitely need a home lab. I recommend using the free tier to host a static website or a simple serverless app to show you understand the console and CLI basics before applying.

Cloud is all about uptime and security. If you show you are reliable and can learn fast, your age won't matter. Certifications are the new currency in this domain.
