What are the most effective ways to calculate Influencer Marketing ROI for B2B brands?

Most of the advice on influencer marketing seems aimed at B2C fashion or beauty brands. As a B2B software provider, I find it hard to track the direct impact of an influencer campaign on our sales funnel. Should I be looking at "Share of Voice" and "Inbound Leads," or is there a better way to attribute revenue to specific thought leaders on LinkedIn or X?

All answers to this question.

B2B influencer ROI is a long game. You shouldn't expect an immediate "buy now" click. Instead, use unique UTM parameters for every influencer and track "assisted conversions" in Google Analytics. Often, a lead sees an influencer's post on LinkedIn, forgets it, but then searches for your brand a week later. I also recommend looking at "Content Longevity"—how often is that influencer's video being reshared in professional groups? For my current SaaS project, we measure "MQLs" (Marketing Qualified Leads) specifically from landing pages promoted by influencers, and we've found the lead quality is 3x higher than cold ads.

Have you considered setting up a "How did you hear about us?" field on your demo request form to capture those "Dark Social" referrals that tracking links often miss?

  • Kenneth, that's a brilliant and simple solution. We've been so focused on digital tracking that we forgot to just ask the customers! I’m going to add that field to our HubSpot forms immediately. It’ll be interesting to see how many people mention the specific industry analysts we’ve been partnering with. I suspect a lot of our "organic search" traffic is actually people who saw an influencer post and then Googled us later, which would finally give us the attribution data we need.

Focus on the "Cost Per Engagement" compared to your LinkedIn Ads spend. Often, an influencer post has a much lower CPE and higher trust factor than a sponsored post.

  • Exactly, Barbara. People trust people more than logos. That "earned media" value is hard to quantify but vital for B2B brand building.
