Which RPA tools are best for integrating AI into legacy business processes?

My company still uses several legacy systems that don't have APIs. We are looking into Robotic Process Automation (RPA) combined with AI to bridge the gap. Between UiPath, Automation Anywhere, and Blue Prism, which one offers the most seamless "intelligent automation" for old-school infrastructure? We specifically want to automate invoice reconciliation and customer sentiment analysis.

All answers to this question.

In my experience, UiPath is the current leader for legacy integration. Their "AI Center" allows you to drag and drop machine learning models directly into your RPA workflows. For invoice reconciliation, their pre-trained models are quite robust. I used it for a project in late 2023 involving a 15-year-old ERP system, and the "surface automation" capabilities—where the bot interacts with the UI like a human—were far more stable than the competitors. Automation Anywhere is great for cloud-native tasks, but for "screen scraping" old tech, UiPath wins.

Melissa, does UiPath handle high-volume processing without lagging on the virtual machines? We have about 5,000 invoices a day and I'm worried about the bot crashing.

  • High volume is all about how you architect your "Robots." If you use "Unattended Robots" on a dedicated server with enough RAM, 5,000 invoices is actually quite manageable. The bottleneck usually isn't the RPA tool itself, but the speed at which your legacy ERP can load the pages. You might need to run multiple bots in parallel (multitasking) to meet that daily quota without issues.

Check out Automation Anywhere’s IQ Bot. It’s specifically designed to handle semi-structured data like invoices and integrates natively with their AI features.

  • Spot on, Cynthia. IQ Bot is very user-friendly for those who don't want to build custom ML models from scratch. It’s a very practical starting point.
