What are the best practices for setting up an RPA Center of Excellence?

A successful RPA CoE requires several key roles: an RPA Sponsor for executive backing, a Solution Architect to design the technical framework, and Business Analysts to map the processes. You also need Developers and an Infrastructure Lead. To prioritize processes, use a matrix that evaluates "Automation Potential" versus "Business Value." Look for tasks that are high-volume, rule-based, and have digital inputs. Starting with a "Proof of Concept" (PoC) in a stable department like Finance or HR helps build internal trust before expanding the digital workforce elsewhere.

• William, we've planned a series of workshops to explain that RPA is meant to take away the "robotic" parts of their jobs, not the people. We’re focusing on "citizen developer" programs to empower employees to build their own small automations, which has actually generated quite a bit of excitement.

The most important part of a CoE is having a clear governance model to ensure every bot is documented, secured, and aligned with the overall IT strategy of the company.

• I couldn't agree more, Margaret. Without governance, you end up with "Shadow IT" where bots are running everywhere but nobody knows who is responsible for maintaining them when things break.
