Choosing your first cloud provider for web development projects in the current market.

I’m finally ready to move my local dev environment to the cloud, but the number of services is overwhelming. Between AWS Free Tier, Azure’s startup credits, and GCP’s AI focus, I’m stuck. Seriously, Which cloud platform is best for beginners in 2026? I need something with a clean UI and predictable billing so I don't get a surprise $500 bill next month.

All answers to this question.

If you are strictly looking at the learning curve, DigitalOcean or Linode used to be the go-to, but in 2025, Google Cloud (GCP) has really simplified their console. AWS is powerful but the IAM roles and VPC configurations are a nightmare for a total novice. GCP organizes everything into "Projects," which makes it very easy to track your spending and delete everything once you're done experimenting. Plus, their documentation is much more human-readable compared to the dense technical manuals Azure provides. I’d suggest starting with a small VM instance there to get the hang of it.

Do you have any prior experience with Windows Server or do you prefer working in a Linux-based terminal environment for your deployments?

  • Honestly, Steven, I’ve mostly worked in Linux environments during my bootcamp. I’m comfortable with the terminal, but the networking side of cloud—like subnets and gateways—still feels like magic to me. I just want a provider that doesn't expect me to be a networking engineer on day one just to host a simple React app and a small Node database.

Azure is actually great if you want to enter the corporate world. Their "Learn" modules are free and provide a very structured path for beginners.

  • Larry is right about the career path. I started with Azure because my company used it, and the integration with GitHub Actions made the CI/CD part of my learning much smoother.
