Which Digital Marketing metrics actually correlate with ROI for B2B SaaS companies?
We are spending a lot of money on LinkedIn Ads and Content Marketing, but our leadership is questioning the ROI. Our Click-Through Rates (CTR) are high, and our Cost Per Lead (CPL) looks good on paper, but the leads aren't converting to closed-won deals. Are we measuring the wrong things? Should we be looking at MQL-to-SQL conversion rates or something else entirely? I feel like we’re drowning in "vanity metrics" while the sales team is starving.

All answers to this question.
You are likely falling into the "Lead Quantity" trap. In B2B SaaS, a low CPL often means you’re attracting low-intent users. You should shift your focus to "Pipeline Velocity" and "Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) Payback Period." If your leads aren't converting, look at your SQL-to-Opportunity ratio. It’s better to have 10 high-intent leads that cost $500 each than 100 "cheap" leads that never buy. Also, make sure you are tracking "Multi-touch Attribution"—B2B buyers usually need 7-10 touchpoints before they actually talk to sales.

Have you tried implementing "Lead Scoring" based on behavioral data rather than just job titles? That might help filter out the noise before it hits your sales team.

Brandon is spot on. We started scoring leads based on how many "high-value" pages they visited (like pricing or case studies). If a lead just downloads a whitepaper and leaves, they stay with Marketing. If they return to the pricing page twice in a week, they get fast-tracked to Sales. This alignment stopped the "starving sales team" complaints almost overnight.

Stop reporting on CTR to your CEO. Start reporting on "Influenced Pipeline." It’s the only metric that shows how marketing is actually helping the bottom line.

I couldn't agree more, Donna. Moving the conversation from "clicks" to "pipeline" completely changed how our budget was perceived by the board.
