Cyber Security threats and if AI is actually replacing jobs in the US or just changing roles.

With AI being used to launch sophisticated phishing attacks, I’m curious about the defensive side. Is AI actually replacing jobs in the US or just changing roles for SOC analysts? It feels like the speed of attacks requires an automated response, leaving less for humans.

All answers to this question.

In Cyber Security, the volume of data is simply too large for humans to process without help. This leads back to the core debate: is AI actually replacing jobs in the US or just changing roles for the defenders? We are seeing that while AI handles the "noise" and level-1 alerts, humans are required for deep-dive forensics and threat hunting. The role is changing from manual log checking to high-level strategy and incident response management. You aren't being replaced; you're being upgraded to a more tactical position where you manage the AI security stack.

Are you finding that your team is spending more time on policy and ethics now that the technical filtering is largely automated?

  • Absolutely. We spend much more time now on "Governance, Risk, and Compliance" (GRC) because the AI can find the holes, but it can't always understand the legal or organizational impact of a specific vulnerability.

It’s definitely a pivot. We need people who can "train" the security AI to recognize new, zero-day patterns that it hasn't seen before.

  • Well put. As Melissa mentioned, the speed of attacks requires AI, but the intuition to catch a brand-new threat still belongs to the human analyst.
