Can AI Agents & Automation really replace traditional RPA for complex supply chain workflows?
I’ve been looking into how AI Agents & Automation might overhaul our current logistics setup. We currently use standard RPA, but the lack of decision-making is a bottleneck. Has anyone successfully migrated to agentic workflows for dynamic routing, and how did you handle the initial reasoning errors?

That sounds like a significant jump in efficiency! Did you find that the token costs for the LLM reasoning started to outweigh the savings you gained from reducing manual intervention?

That’s a valid concern, Jeffrey. In our case, we optimized costs by using smaller, fine-tuned models for routine routing tasks and only escalating to larger models for complex problem-solving. This tiered approach kept our API costs manageable while still reaping the benefits of autonomy.

From my experience at a mid-sized logistics firm, the shift to AI Agents & Automation is transformative but requires a phased approach. We moved our dynamic routing to an agent-based model last year. The primary hurdle was definitely the "hallucination" in reasoning during weather disruptions. We mitigated this by implementing a "human-in-the-loop" verification step for any decision with a confidence score below 85%. While the setup was complex, our operational efficiency increased by 22% within six months. It’s less about replacement and more about upgrading RPA's "hands" with AI "brains."

RPA is great for "if-this-then-that," but the proactive nature of AI agents is where the real ROI lies for modern logistics.

Totally agree, Kevin! The ability of these systems to adapt to real-time data shifts is exactly what traditional automation lacks.
