Can a Project Manager earn more by switching to Agile and Scrum?

The shift to Agile can definitely break that salary plateau, but it’s not just about the certificate. A Scrum Master role in a non-tech company might pay similarly to what you earn now. To hit the $160k+ range, you need to look at "Agile Coaching" or "Program Management" in the tech sector. Your PMP background is actually a huge asset because it shows you understand the business constraints that pure Agile sometimes ignores. If you can demonstrate "Agile at scale" using frameworks like SAFe, your earning potential will increase dramatically compared to a standard PM.

• Thomas, the market is saturated with people who have the certification but no experience. However, there is a massive shortage of coaches who can actually handle the cultural resistance in large organizations. If you can prove you’ve successfully led a transition for a department of 100+ people, you can basically name your price. It's the "soft skills" of change management that are the highest paid, not just knowing the Scrum ceremonies.
