Using AI for daily brainstorming: How to get beyond "generic" ideas?
I work in digital marketing, and I use ChatGPT daily for headline ideas and campaign concepts. But lately, I feel like the ideas are getting repetitive. Are there advanced prompting techniques to force the AI to be more "outside the box"? How are you using it for brainstorming to ensure the content stays fresh and competitive in an AI-saturated market?

All answers to this question.
The "Reverse Brainstorming" technique is my secret weapon. Instead of asking for "good ideas," I ask the AI: "Give me 10 reasons why this campaign would fail," or "Give me the most boring, cliché ideas for this product so I can avoid them." This forces the model to identify the boundaries of the "generic" space. Then, I tell it: "Now, give me 5 ideas that are the exact opposite of those clichés." By 2024, I’ve found that the best way to use AI is as a "sparring partner" rather than a "generator." You have to push against it to get something truly unique.

Megan, that’s a brilliant strategy! Do you ever use the "Temperature" or "Top-P" settings in the API, or do you find that standard chat interfaces are enough if the prompt is strong enough?

Gregory, for most people, the standard interface is enough if you use "Multi-Step Prompting." I don't ask for the final answer in the first prompt. I spend 5 minutes "setting the stage"—explaining the audience's deep-seated fears and desires. If you give the AI a "Psychological Profile" to work with, the ideas suddenly become much more pointed and less generic. It’s all about the quality of the "Seed Data" you give it before the brainstorm starts.

I use the "Perspective Shift" prompt. I ask it: "How would a minimalist architect design this ad?" or "How would a stand-up comedian write this headline?" It breaks the corporate mold.

The "Minimalist Architect" one is actually a fantastic idea! I’m going to try that for our next landing page. It’s such a clever way to force a specific aesthetic onto the AI.
