If your current role involves overseeing several linked projects, your employer might still categorize you as a senior project manager. You are likely already juggling shared assets, project-to-project dependencies, and the varied needs of stakeholders, yet you may lack the formal recognition and strategic authority that comes with being a program management professional. However, those who hold a certified status typically report straight to executive leadership. They focus on delivering strategic business advantages rather than simple project outputs and command premium compensation for spearheading enterprise-wide transformation. The ceiling on your professional growth ends today. This pgmp certification training is far more than just an updated PMP class. It was created by veteran portfolio and program executives who have directed massive organizational changes—such as merging companies, launching new product categories, and leading digital transitions. This curriculum is designed to help you transition from a focus on tactical completion to one of strategic command. You will gain the skills to navigate complex corporate politics, advocate for multi-year funding, and unite different business segments under a central strategic vision. Unlike standard workshops, our focus is on building executive-level capabilities. You will master the creation of program roadmaps, the establishment of governance structures, and the management of a program's financial health to ensure that business benefits are identified, achieved, and measured. While the certificate is your entry requirement, the lasting benefit is learning to speak the language of the C-suite, offering business cases instead of project schedules, and proving yourself as a leader who achieves strategic results.

Qualification Overview

Educational Background

Program Management Experience

Four-Year Degree

AND

4 years (6,000 hours) of project management work AND 4 years (6,000 hours) of program management experience

Secondary Degree or Diploma

AND

4 years (6,000 hours) of project management work AND 7 years (10,500 hours) of program management experience

Analytical Capabilities: Passing the panel review requires high-level problem-solving skills and the ability to clearly document your unique professional history.

  • What are the full requirements to be eligible for this certification?
The standards are high and meant for experienced leaders. You need either a four-year degree with 4 years of project experience and 4 years of program experience, or a high school diploma/associate degree with 4 years of project experience and 7 years of program experience.

  • Can you explain the difference between the application stage and the panel review?
It is a two-part process. The application is an online form where you list your hours to meet the basic requirements. Once that is accepted, it goes to a panel review where certified volunteers read your written summaries to judge the strategic depth and complexity of your work.

  • How should I describe my professional experience?
You must write detailed narratives for each program, explaining your role across the five performance domains. You need to show how you handled strategy, benefits, and governance. Descriptions that sound too much like simple project management will be rejected.

  • What is the current cost of the exam?
The pgmp exam cost is set by PMI. For members, it is $800 USD, and for non-members, it is $1000 USD. We suggest joining PMI for $139 USD to save on the test and get a free digital copy of the official standards.

  • What is the length and style of the test?
The pgmp certification exam is a 4-hour computer test with 170 multiple-choice questions. Most questions are based on scenarios that require you to use strategic logic rather than just memorizing facts.

  • What score do I need to achieve to pass?
PMI does not give a specific percentage. They use psychometric scoring to rate you as "Above Target," "Target," "Below Target," or "Needs Improvement" in each domain. You generally need to be at "Target" or higher to pass.

  • Is an at-home testing option available?
Yes, you can take the exam at a Pearson VUE center or online via the OnVUE platform. If testing at home, you must have a private space and a very stable internet connection. Many people still choose a test center to avoid technical or power issues.

  • Where can I find a testing location?
Pearson VUE has major centers in most large cities around the world.

  • What happens if I don't pass on my first try?
Your one-year eligibility allows for up to three attempts. You will have to pay a fee for retakes. Our course aims for a first-time pass, but if you fail, we will review your results and give you an updated study plan for free.

  • How long does the credential last and how do I renew it?
It is valid for three years. To keep it, you must earn 60 Professional Development Units (PDUs) in that time and pay a renewal fee. You can get PDUs by working in the field, attending workshops, or giving back to the profession.
